Light intensity affects tolerance of pyrene in Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus acutus

The impact of light intensity on the toxicity pyrene, a 4-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), was studied in Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus acutus. Both species were cultured under low light, LL [50-60 µmol(photon) m-2 s-1], high HL [100-110 s-1] conditions to study effects pyrene (PYR) growth parameters, content biomolecules, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic efficiency. In presence PYR, S. acutus could grow well intensity. On other hand, C. showed drastic decrease photosynthesis during due PYR toxicity.
